This sounds logical to me and how I'd expect it to work as default.

After all, if you're driving the car on your own - Why would you need or want the passenger side to unlock? If you do, you just press the fob twice and it unlocks both before you get in.

If the passenger unlocks their door first, you'd expect the driver's door to unlock too as someone has got to get in and drive it!

Good info above though that it can be tweaked if necessary.

After some searching.
If you want the drivers door handle to unlock both doors:
Use the drivers door handle to open the door
Leave the door open and hold the lock andunlock buttons on the fob for 5 seconds
You'll hear a couple of beeps
Voila - your drives handle now opens both doors.
This can be repeated to reverse if wanted!

it was after putting some shopping in the boot today and I checked to see if it was locked before walking away from it and every time i tried the boot it just kept opening again. so i went back in the house and left the key there and went out again to try the boot and it had locked then very odd

Hehe, remember that you can't check if it is locked like that if you still have the key, it will open as requested!

I thought I'd pop over to FT86 club and have a search..... 10 mins later my car is working how I want. Seems a bit of a strange omission from the handbook though.

Maybe we should have a sticky for useful hints somewhere on here as this is bound to come up again, and save people a trip back to the dealers to sort out.

Great info will change the door opening on mine later. Have had a few times when waiting for my wife to get in and getting the look coz door is still locked.

Just signed up, did a search but to no avail. My brother's Hyundai Coupe is having a similar problem to what the TS experienced except the doors as a whole wouldn't open manually but does automatically using the remote. At the time, since we've used them before, we called our local locksmiths Thamesmeadto simplydiagnoseand possibly fix what was going on. They came aroundimmediatelyand did a professional job and concluded that the latch had bloody locked up inside - typical Hyundai - so instead of going to the dealership they quoted me a nice price and I paid them to do the job for me and everything was fixed.</font>

Now my '86 experienced something similar when I got back from a daytrip to France. I don't know if it's connected but, when I drove her back on UK soil, the locks played up. The temperature I may add was -5 degrees celcius according to the on-board display - is this something common with the '86s locks?! If so I must say I'm not happy. Until this day it isn't fixed, it has been a few weeks now.</font>

So can you clarify what's happening j.simpson? How do you get into the car? Is it just one/both locks that are not working? Are you using the keyless entry, remote or manually unlocking the car
