Hi

My new car arrives tomorrow and i am seeing a lot of posts about updating the Touch and Go Sat nav?

Is this something that i will need to do? Take to a dealer to do?

What was the main reason for updating?

They are shipped with March 2011 maps.Ensure they update before you take receipt or at least before it covers 170 miles.
If it's left until after 170 miles it gets complicated and you'll regret it.

Why complicated after 170 miles?

I complained to Toyota HQ directly, it is ridiculous that this is not done when the Nav module is added at POE given it cost £750. I would prefer if they just gave it free through the touch&go software on the computer and I would upload myself, would be so much simpler. I went over 170 miles in the first 24 hours so that is a ridiculous limit. I am regretting spending the money on the sat nav as it is sh*t compared to the tomtom iphone app to top it all off.

This is the procedure, you get car with 2011 maps installed then you
have to go online via sat nav system and register yourself and the car with the
Toyota portal

, once this is done you are entitled to free updates and apps for 12
months from delivery. That ok?"
Is this correct?

I would be wary of that unless you have it confirmed by Toyota GB (it sounds like yet another dealer trying to get out of doing the update) as it seems to be the next version up of the Touch & Go which comes with a years map updates, see here:
