You will want to use a 'spudger' or plastic cutlery to prise off the bottom clips. It's not on there tight and comes off easier than you think.
It might not necessarily be your antenna connection, it is a powered antenna so you will want to ensure its getting a reliable 12v feed to it.
As Kaviar said, its not worth the upgrade on the standard headunit, you are best off going aftermarket, much better options out there.
