Hi All,
Have been driving one since end of june, currently 1200 miles to date & getting better.

A little more thirsty than the last car (auris Hybrid) but what a joy!!Use any excuse to get out for a drive.Working for the Toyota centre in Macclesfield so if i can help with accessories parts or car orders, just let me know.

We Have fitted the JBL upgrade sound system to mine, even though it may seem a little pricey the sound is incredible and far better than the standard audio. The sub bass unit screws into the spare wheel well in the boot and supports the sound rather than over powers it,whichis apparent in other JBL systems i have heard.Well worth cosidering if u like quality sound. The carbon fibre mirror caps look really welland break up the red of the car.Looking forward to TRD upgrades due in January,a total of £11,000 for body kits, brake upgrades etc.

I agree. A few pictures of what goes into the JBL sound upgrade would be wonderful. This is an option that interests a lot of potential owners but many are just not sure about committing to the cost of the upgrade until they know more about it.

I would also be interested to hear whether it is possible to hook up a rear camera with the Toyota GO infotainment system on the GT86?

Excellent. Thank you for that. I am not a fan of the mirror covers but the JBL system is becoming increasingly tempting. I had better concentrate on getting back to work and earning enough to pay for it!!

The sub/bass unit in the spare wheel well doesn't look very big and is in the wrong place to my, non-audiophile, eyes. The feck off bigBosesub in my Zed is about twice the size and directly behind my seat. Fairly knocks the wind out of you.

I suppose it's all in the hearing though so I'll reserve judgement until I hear it myself.

Hi and thanks for the info. Was the upgrade done at dealer level or, rather, can it be? I haven't ordered the JBL system and my 86 should be on a boat somewhere as I type this so if normally it's a factory order I've missed the boat (pun intended). Can it be added to my car order and installed at POE?

Riceburner, I tested this very car on Sunday. I tried the sound system, but was shocked at how poor it sounded. Nick (the salesman) and I tried to configure it so we could stop the front speakers distorting. There are appeared to be a complete lack of bass. Nick and I agreed that it really wasn't the worth the money as my own system in my car had far more punch.

I'm not trying to poo, poo the system, but is it working properly? I just found it far from incredible tbh. It's a pricey option so it'd have to be amazing to tempt me.

Cheers,

Lauren

I'd add, Riceburner, that I'd be more than happy to pop in and you can show me how it works properly as I often pass through Macc as the other half's business is there.

Wow, thanks for the pics, the only pic of the JBL I've seen thus far is the one for from the brochure and that showed the sub protruding out of the carpet lining (presumably cutting a hole in the carpet lining) but now it seems that it's just covered over? Is there any added support around the sub for when luggage and stuff is dumped into the boot on top of the sub or around it?

I'm kinda worried now.....

And £11k for the full TRD Kit???
What about the price for just the Aero kit and quad exhausts?

Hi Lauren,
Unfortunately you heard the system before the fit was finished. It was only completed this morning as the date on my pics show. The sub is not a pounding one,but more supportive to the sound with an underlying base.We also had some work to do on the panel vibrating on the n/s/f door card but nothing we couldnt deal with.I spoke to a audio specialist who has a contact at JBL and this system has been specially tuned for an all round neutral sound at all levels. If you require banging base then it is not for you.

Regards

Here are a few images of the JBL & Mirror Caps

Quality. Thanks Mate.

I am seriously considering the JBL upgrade.

I have a couple of concerns.

Is it difficult to install? Please dont take offence, but is there a chance my Toyota dealer could damage something? perhaps the door trim? or scratch something? I dotn think they have installed a JBL system in any car before.

Also, does the amp screw in the metal work? Im not expert but is this good from a rust provention point of view?

Thanks

Hi GT86 Owner,
The amp is bolted to the bodywork on one side only, using the frame and an existing bolt through the bodywork which is already drilled as standard from the factory. It is then reinforced by adhesive strips which secure either side of the amp.We have fitted these systems in Auris, prius and avensis models without a problem, mind we have Super Gary our Foreman who can fit anything to cars having built his own kit car and various mini rebuilds.Spend a day in sunny Macclesfield and we will gladly fit it for you.

Regards

Thanks Riceburner,

I am about 160Miles away but seriously considering it as you clearly know what your doing. Are you able to provide a quote for potential JBL upgraders?

Hi,

I know they state 440W somewhere for the Amp but do you have an instruction manual with real RMS power figures and at what THD/Load?

I am hoping it looks something like 4x75W rms (<1% THD, 4ohms) + 1x140Wrms (<1% THD, 4 ohms)
