How and when do the headlight washers work?

I've tried holding the windscreen washers down, but no sign of the headlights being sprayed. anyone have these working?

Ran out of washer fluid the other day. Bit of a schoolboy error, that one, but was surprised to find there's no low washer fluid warning lamp, but they wasted time putting cruise on such a car....

Cruise is extremely useful; idiot lights aren't.

I tried this on my own with the driver door open and leaning through and pulling the stalk back- cue me getting sprayed with windscreen fluid...

was worth it to see the headlight cleaners pop out

i do that everytime i need to take a quick shower
