Stock exhaust life

Has anyone run the stock exhaust to failure? Ideas on what age / mileage could be expected? Appreciate it will vary based on use and environmental factors...

Hi all, bumping this topic. Has anyone had to replace their exhaust because it has failed? I donít want to replace it prematurely, but when it goes Iíd like to have an aftermarket replacement lined up. Iím considering Borla as I like the look and sound, perhaps coupled with the TDNA UEL package...

So if youíve had a stock exhaust fail Iíd be very interested in mileage and age. Iím at 50k. On a previous car the exhaust fell off at about 60k!

I had my catback changed because the flanges had rusted badly. I think I was told they are only 4mm thick and prone to rust?

Cant remember the mileage but probably was 50-55k and about 5yrs old? It would probably have lasted longer if it hadnt been disturbed?

Thanks for the feedback. Hard to know how much longer it would last. Suprised no-one has fed back that theirs failed. Maybe the stock exhaust is very robust, or everyone is already running an aftermarket one!

For reference, 60k+ miles here, still stock. Car is coming up on 7 years old. Had an inspection a few weeks ago and told underside is in very good condition. Bearing in mind I live in Scotland where winters are very salty!

JESS! What were you thinking, man?

I think you are trying to build a business case for an upgrade when none exists. The platform has been there since 2012 and people have done 100K + without issues. Only sensitive area seems coil packs. Exhausts generally do not fail commonly. My MOT mate suggests about 2 to 3% have rusted exhausts and is common with cars >10 yrs old. I am not coastal so there may be subtle differences there.

If your heart says you want a full exhaust upgrade , then go for it :-)

Cheers. Maybe it shall last a long time then... Iíll be waiting until the warranty expires in that case (another year) unless it fails before hand.
