I love my black when freshly cleaned, but a day later it looks grey. So I'm toying with grey for my next, but it's not great. Ideally, I'd have one half-way between black and grey; BMW did a 'metallic black' in the 80s that was just right - my black isn't 'metallic' enough to give the dirt-shrugging effect.

This is where the provessional colour advisor whips out his dirt map which shows you the color of dirt all over the country. "Hm, let's see , you're in an ochre region with a lot of rain. Not urban. The thing to do here is match the dry look, not the wet look. The rain look is generally acceptable, but the result of all that rain is that whenever it's dry your car has dirty stripes, ripples and gradients. So I propose something from this palette (whips out a second color chart) . How about mocha, or racing green maybe?"
