I'm looking to get OEM mudflaps fitted to my car next week and was wondering if anyone had experience with them and speedbumps? The profile of the car is the lowest I've had and I'm concerned with catching one of the plastic mudguards on a bump and getting damaged/causing damage to the bodywork.
Never had an issue with normal ride height. Being so close to the wheel it's unlikely that the mudguard will ever hit a speed bump, unless you go over one with a vertical profile high enough to hit the sill, which is unlikely.
In general, you're fine. I've had mine hit the plastic speed bumps before though, but only quite high ones that are on the limit of legality - they got removed a few weeks after being installed. Mine's also lowered 25mm so stock height should be fine.
Damage wise, there's just a bit of scraping on the mudflaps, nothing worth caring about
Never had an issue with them scraping. With stock ride height its highly unlikely to happen and the benefits of stopping muck on the side sills outweigh the risks.
Thanks guys. Looks like I'll be giving Toyota a ring to get it booked in and see if they can do anything about the taillight condensation as well (car is less than 5 years old).
I always get mud flaps on my cars I have on my 86. Pleased I did with roads at the moment. Tip they are easy to fit yourself so think about saving some labour.
Ground clearance in stock form is 12cm, that is not low. The main ground clearance problem with the car is the nose scraping when you drive off or on something.
